back into history.

and enjoy the warm and welcoming ‘English Experience’
THE STORY OF PEGGOTY’S
The most influential and important
writer of his time, Charles Dickens was known for telling ‘the peoples’ story.
Infusing all his characters with feeling was a trademark and somewhat
unconventional for the time to have the lower class perspective. The character
Clara Peggotty emerges from Dickens’ novel ‘David Copperfield.’ Clara takes
David under her wing; he is embraced into her family atmosphere, and delights
in her qualities of being a great cook and a jovial character.
The
Dickens classic, already one of our favorites, helped guide us to the qualities
we strive to achieve in the ‘Peggoty’s experience.’ Inspired by Clara Peggotty,
we seek to be welcoming, and make all our products traditionally in our
kitchens.
On
a personal note, we are from Derbyshire (Buxton), England originally. We have
spent many years in Canada and love the country not only for its expansive
beauty but for its history and culture. We live in one of the most pretty
Victorian-infused towns of Southwestern Ontario, just minutes away from
theatre, golf, the beaches and yachting communities.
Peggoty’s
B&B is a sprawling Victorian yellow-brick house built in 1872. Located on a
street flooded with bowing trees, a five minute walk up to the town center is
an experience in itself.
